The GRCF is Thinking Green

Kitchener, May 23, 2006 – Saturday, May 27, 2006 marks the celebration of a great environmental partnership, to benefit the children of the Grand River watershed.

Last fall, the GRCF joined forces with Greentec and its Think Recycle fundraising program to raise awareness and funds for The Living Classroom, Campaign for Outdoor Education. On May 27, Greentec employees will gather from 11 – 2 pm at the Shade’s Mills Conservation Area in Cambridge to enjoy hikes, crafts and critters and celebrate the partnership.

To date, proceeds of the Campaign have enabled more than 90,000 elementary school students to attend curriculum-based outdoor education programs at Nature Centres throughout the Grand River watershed. Funds raised also ensure that students have high-quality facilities within which to learn.

Over 300 million print cartridges are consumed, and over 100 million cell phones are retired from use in North America every year.

Think Recycle, a division of Greentec, is an environmental fundraising program that currently funds over 10,000 business and schools across North America.  The program provides free boxes with pre-paid shipping labels to facilitate the collection of used cell phones and print cartridges.  Not only does this keep electronic waste out of landfill, but it also acts as a source of fundraising.  Used cell phones and print cartridges come back to Think Recycle in Cambridge, Ontario Canada where they are sorted, classified and either reused, refurbished or recycled.  Cash rebates associated with each cell phone and print cartridge are calculated and given back to Think Recycle participants.

Those interested in joining the program and donating their funds to the GRCF’s Living Classroom campaign can do so by enrolling online at www.thinkrecycle.com, or by calling 1.888.265.2895.

“We are very excited about the Think Recycle print cartridge and cell phone recycling program,” said Sara Wilbur, Director of Development for the GRCF.  “The opportunity to help promote a better environment while raising funds for a good cause is something we are very proud to be a part of.”
